Two students, Grace from Kenya and Alejandro from Ecuador, were sponsored by ROOTA to attend the Children and Youth Major Group Conference in Nairobi.
Delegates were regularly engaging in negotiations with the United Nations Environmental Association (UNEA) and expressing their voice and concerns regarding the environment. While over 2,400 applicants were interested in this unique opportunity, funding was available for 30 youth delegates to go to the UNEA. Through a very competitive process, the top qualified environmental advocates from all over the world are identified, including Grace and Alejandro.
UNEA 5.2's overall theme was, “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”. It took place in a hybrid format in Nairobi from 28 February to 2 March, 2022. This platform creates a space for youth to come together to meaningfully discuss environmental policies and conservation processes in the UN system.
The youth are the future and the future is now! ROOTA supports these youth to voice their community's or global environmental.
